COVID-19 Update #10: March 19, 2020

Posted On Thursday March 19, 2020

We are working to keep our students, staff and families as up-to-date as possible during the provincially-ordered school closure over the next two weeks. For so many reasons, this is a complicated and challenging time for all of our communities. The COVID-19 situation and information continues to change rapidly, however, the health, safety and well-being of students and staff is Thames Valley’s highest priority. We continue to receive advice from our Public Health agencies and direction from the Ministry of Education related to COVID-19.

We have been receiving many questions around the continuity of learning for our students during the closure period. We have been in consultation with the Ministry of Education who will be providing some direction and we hope to be able to send an update to our families shortly.

As announced on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, which is administered to all students across the province, is cancelled and has been waived for graduating students who do not yet have the literacy requirement. Students who are not graduating this school year will have the opportunity to write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in the upcoming 2020-21 school year. In addition, all EQAO assessments previously scheduled for the 2019-20 school year are cancelled.

Legislation is pending for all Board and Committee meetings to move to a virtual platform to continue the progress and work of teams such as the Special Education Advisory Committee, while honouring social distancing requirements.

The Board encourages students, parents/guardians and staff to monitor news outlets and Thames Valley websites and social media for further updates and information.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and commitment to the health and safety of our students and staff.
